Terms of Use for EERI’s Automatic Membership Renewal

By enrolling in the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Automatic Membership Renewal, you agree to the following terms of use:

Data Storage
EERI will store your preference for Automatic Membership Renewal and your payment information in accordance with industry best practices. Should you decide to cancel your Automatic Membership Renewal, your payment information is safely deleted in its entirety from our systems.

Data Sharing
EERI does not share your data with any third parties with the exception of service providers whose role is integral to processing your membership. Examples include credit card payment processors, banks, and technical service providers. All external service providers limit exposure to respective staff except as necessary to perform their functions. EERI service providers do not share your data in any way.

Cookies
Cookies are unique identifiers that we transfer to your device to enable our systems to recognize your device and to provide features integral to processing your membership. The Help feature on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. 

You can disable or delete similar data used by browser add-ons, such as Flash cookies, by changing the add-on's settings or visiting the Web site of its manufacturer. Because cookies are integral to processing your membership online, we recommend that you leave them turned on. For instance, if you block or otherwise reject our cookies, you will not be able to sign in to your online account with EERI and may encounter problems with EERI online join or membership renewal forms.

Payments and Payment Terms

Non-Student Membership 
You may select to auto-renew any and all of your membership options, including your primary membership, regional chapter membership, Earthquake Spectra print delivery, and the Seismological Society of America (SSA) associate membership.

EERI will attempt to process your membership payment using stored payment information on December 15 each year. Upon successful completion of your membership payment, you will receive an email confirmation with a PDF receipt. If your payment failed, you will receive an email with this information and instructions to update your payment information within 15 days. 

We will make a second attempt to renew your membership on December 31. Upon successful completion of your membership payment on the second attempt, you will receive an email confirmation with a PDF receipt. If your second attempt failed, you will receive an email with this information and instructions to update your payment information within 15 days. 

We will make a third attempt to renew your membership on January 15. Upon successful completion of your membership payment on the third attempt, you will receive an email confirmation with a PDF receipt. If your third attempt failed, you will receive an email with this information and guidance on how to maintain your EERI membership.

Student Membership

Cancellation of Automatic Membership Renewal

Un-enrollment on or before December 1 for non-student membership types and August 1 for student membership types will prevent Automatic Membership Renewal from proceeding. 

Refunds of Automatic Membership Renewal Payments

No, we will only attempt to automatically renew your EERI membership if you have not already done so yourself.
