Terms of Use for EERI’s Automatic Membership Renewal

By enrolling in The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute’s (EERI’s) Automatic Membership Renewal you agree to the following Terms of Use:

Data Storage
EERI will store your preference for Automatic Membership Renewal and your payment information in accordance with industry best practices. Should you decide to cancel your Automatic Membership Renewal, your payment information is safely deleted in its entirety from our systems.

Data Sharing
EERI does not share your data with any third parties with the exception of service providers whose role is integral to processing your membership. Examples include credit card payment processors, banks, and technical service providers. All external service providers limit exposure to respective staff except as necessary to perform their functions. EERI service providers do not share your data in any way.

Cookies
Cookies are unique identifiers that we transfer to your device to enable our systems to recognize your device and to provide features integral to processing your membership. The Help feature on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. Payments and Payment Terms
For Non-Student membership types - EERI will attempt to process your membership payment using stored payment information on December 15th each year. Upon successful completion of your membership payment you will be delivered an email including a PDF receipt of payment. If your payment should fail for any reason, you will be delivered an email with this information and instructions regarding updating your payment information within 15 days. We will make a second attempt to renew your membership on December 31st. Upon successful completion of your membership payment on the second attempt you will be delivered an email including a PDF receipt of payment. If your second attempt payment should fail for any reason, you will be delivered an email with this information and instructions regarding updating your payment information within 15 days. We will make a third attempt to renew your membership on January 15th. Upon successful completion of your membership payment on the third attempt you will be delivered an email including a PDF receipt of payment. If your third attempt payment should fail for any reason, you will be delivered an email with this information and instructions regarding maintaining your EERI membership.

For Student membership types - EERI will attempt to process your membership payment using stored payment information on August 15th each year. Upon successful completion of your membership payment you will be delivered an email including a PDF receipt of payment. If your payment should fail for any reason, you will be delivered an email with this information and instructions regarding updating your payment information within 15 days. We will make a second attempt to renew your membership on August 31st. Upon successful completion of your membership payment on the second attempt you will be delivered an email including a PDF receipt of payment. If your second attempt payment should fail for any reason, you will be delivered an email with this information and instructions regarding updating your payment information within 15 days. We will make a third attempt to renew your membership on September 15th. Upon successful completion of your membership payment on the third attempt you will be delivered an email including a PDF receipt of payment. If your third attempt payment should fail for any reason, you will be delivered an email with this information and instructions regarding maintaining your EERI membership.

Cancellation of Automatic Membership Renewal
You may cancel Automatic Membership Renewal at any time. To un-enroll please contact EERI via email using This email address is being protected from spambots. Un-enrollment on or before December 1st for non-student membership types and August 1st for student membership types will prevent Automatic Membership Renewal from proceeding. You may re-enroll at any time.

Refunds of Automatic Membership Renewal Payments

No, we will only attempt to automatically renew your EERI membership if you have not already done so yourself.

How safe is my stored payment information?

Your payment information is encrypted in transit and in storage, rendering it useless to third parties. Your encrypted payment information is also stored in closely monitored and secured data centers in accordance with industry best practices.
